To NaNo Or Not To NaNo?

Standard

Hello, it is day five of NaNoWriMo. I don’t remember who first told me about it, but it always sounded exciting. Until I tried to write a story and I couldn’t. I believe that was back in 2006. Well, I am currently an active NaNoWriMo participant. To non writers, I know it must seem weird to want to write 50,000 words in a month. But the catch is, if your story gets picked, it can get published. That is the dream of all writers. Yes, because even though some say they write just because, deep down they want tons of people to read it.

Here is my rant. I just read a blog about a writer who is anti-NaNo. Why would you tell someone not to write? When I was teaching, the only reason why I told any minority teaching prospect not to do it was because of what I had to go through(my real experience). I have taught kids in some form or fashion since I was seven. So, when I was given rejection after rejection in the teaching field, I took a hard look at myself and I realized it wasn’t my fault. I just wasn’t what principals and school districts wanted(as they amazingly awed at my resume). That’s not reality, that’s politics. So I changed my life plan. I still don’t know where my journey is going to end.

People are not going to lose money because they choose to take time out of their day and commit to writing. If you write a book and get tons of rejections, I think that is ok because at least you succeeded in writing the book. I know I may face that and I plan to be happy that I wrote my story.

So if you are reading this and have any inkling that you have a story in you that needs to get out, just go for it and don’t worry about the haters 🙂

31 Days To Write Your Story(27) Words

Standard

When I read a book, I am instantly transported to a different place. I was listening to one of my favorite running podcasts MarathonTalk and its set in England. So as I ran and listened, I felt like I was right there with the storytellers. Then I realized every time I read something British, in my head I read it with a British accent. Then it makes me want to go to England.

This is just one example of how powerful words are. It is so important to be mindful of what we say and how we say it. The Bible says the tongue has the power of life and death in it. I so believe that. Being a highly sensitive person, I take every word to heart.

I hope you have a kind word day 🙂

31 Days To Write Your Story(26) What Words And Girl Power Have In Common

Standard

Well, I saw some clips of Black Girls Rock today and boy was I inspired and encouraged. I would say that like girl power, words are very powerful. They have the power to change our mood, cause us to think, and change our perspectives. This blog is so late because I had to do a mad write for NaNoWriMo. Now I am tired. Girl power is also what the Spice Girls sang about. So I would say that words impact the world and so does girl power. I hope everyone puts their words and power or central governor(my new favorite word) to the test in order to change the world for the better.

30 Days Of Truth(26) Have You Ever Thought Of Giving Up On Life?

Standard

Ah yes, what another horrible blog prompt. I have had my share of days where I wanted to check out. It wasn’t pretty. I know that in those moments, I could not see any other way. Thankfully those moments passed. Now I understand that no matter how bleak things may seem, there is light around the corner. I just have to zombie walk my way around the corner.

If you have someone in your life who is going through a rough time, comfort them. Listen to them. Don’t try to fix them or tell them what they should do. Just be as supportive as you can. Because its nothing like a wall of judgement coming at you to make you feel worse.

If you are thinking about giving up, call someone. Take a walk. Help someone. Go to the doctor. Go to an emergency room(if you don’t have a primary doctor). There is hope and you are worth it.

31 Days To Write Your Story(25) You’re Gonna Need Your People

Standard

Yes! I need all of the positive people in my life. I need all of the people who support and encourage me through the good and the bad times. I need the people who understand me. I need the people who push me toward the goal. I need people to function. I can’t do it without others.

Who do you need in your life?

Shalom and happy writing

31 Days To Write Your Story(24) Because Stories Are More Interesting Than Statistics

Standard

I started this blog as a place to get the train started as I began to write my story. I found some great people with great ideas to start from. Then people started reading my blog. The first day I wrote, seven people checked out my blog. Now, we are past the five hundred mark and I still can’t believe it. I have never had people encourage me in my writing or tell me to go for it. Now people come out of the woodwork just to root me on. That is truly humbling.

I am a blog junkie. I have had in the past blogs anywhere I could. I love to read blogs. Blogs help me feel connected to people that I can’t just popover and visit(one day). Blogs make me laugh, make me see new perspectives, and even make me cry. So if you have a blog and you aren’t writing in it, please start. I need to hear what you have to say. It is important.

Yes, stories are way more interesting than statistics. I want to be happy with my blog no matter how many people read it. But having people read it and identify with it also helps me to know that I am not alone. That means that other people can get me the way I get them. That is awesome and I don’t want to miss it.

So, just in case you wondered who I was writing for, I write for myself. I only write what I am thinking or feeling at the moment. Because if I did anything different, it just would not be me. Also, I haven’t been fake since I was in elementary school and put tissue in my training bra(because I wanted to fit in). Yep, I haven’t been fake for awhile.

So here’s to blogging, writing, and sharing your  voice.
