Training Day 171 p.2/Notes From The Best

The session started off with John “The Penguin” Bingham, who is also starting the race this weekend(can’t think of that word at the moment). 
-If you are in a back corral, you have time(so don’t feel like you are in a rush). 
-The people with the most interesting life stories are in the back. 
-Runners round down when telling their times 🙂 
-Enjoy yourself! 
-Look good in your finish photo 🙂 
Someone asked a question about hydration. 
-If your urine is clear, all of the electrolytes are out of your system. 
-Drink when you are thirsty 
-At every aid station ask yourself “Am I thirsty?” 
Someone asked about their knee 
-everyone gets a little nicked up 
-The difference between injury vs. fatigue 
-Commit to walking through the water stops 
-No professional athlete is going to ris their health for one race 
-Be aware of your surroundings when you have an ipod 
Someone asked about hitting the ‘wall’ 
-With all the different replacements, you won’t hit the wall 
-Cramping=lack of sodium 
-Don’t wait to fuel 
-Layer(short sleeve, long sleeve, hat). 
I don’t have a hat oops… 
In the next session John and Frank spoke: 
-In NY, the hills are the bridges 
-The drugs work too well 
-EPO gives a 2% advantage(not fair) 
-You can’t promote a sport and police it at the same time. 
-There is a certain segment of the population that doesn’t care if they are actually winning on their own. 
-You lose more often than you win 
-When you train, you are just like the elites 
-It’s not all or nothing 
-Elites keep up the same intensity even after a race 
-Frank started running for stress relief(in school) 
-You have to enjoy the movement(itself) 
-Ask yourself “Do you like just being out there?” 
-When racing, you have to know when to turn the switch on and off(regarding competition) 
The next session involved Rod Dixon, Frank, and Meb: 
-Everyday is different, you just have to give it 110% 
-Do your scheduled workout even when you don’t feel good 
-Consistency is the key 
-Run to your best ability 
-Everyone who finishes is a winner 
-Finishing is winning and winning is finishing 
-Punch the turns! 
-You can convert your fibers(from fast to slow) 
-Running is like a game of chess 
-You have to be a few steps/moves ahead of the next person 
-Look at the corners(how can you save the distance?) 
-Its a game of pluses and minuses 
-If you are trying to win, it doesn’t matter who is next to you 
-Make sure you are initiating 
-We all run better in different conditions 
-Reframing, When you lose, figure out how you will win the next time 
-We all have to overcome something(MEB) 
-Always have a plan(A-Z if needed) 
-Run your own race(I wrote that twice) 
-Go to your inner coach 
-The marathon is a metaphor for life 
-Don’t go out too early(MEB) 
Talk(find someone to talk to around mile 7 or 8(John)

Training Day 171/Confessions of A Running Groupie

So this morning I headed out to the Fitness expo. I got there early(it didn’t open until 11 on the dot), so I ended up with a good spot in line. I met some cool people from St. Louis. We get inside and I am a little surprised because the vendors don’t come out of their areas and greet us. It’s a little like pulling teeth(but I manage to get some cool things). I even won a cute pair of socks. 
It’s kind of surreal when I actual have my bib. I find the stage and go sit down, when who comes near, John “The Penguin” Bingham!! OMG, He totally signs my books, and makes fun of me for taking notes lol. 

Training Day 170/ 3 Days To Go

I went to a job fair today which was ho hum. All I could think about was getting my new arm warmers for the race. I had to get a white pair. I also got some GU Chomps(interesting). The people at the running store were so encouraging and they told me good luck and that I should do fine. There are going to be bands every so mile. So I am debating taking my ipod(maybe I will have the volume down a tad lol. 
Tomorrow I am so excited because I get to go to the Expo(I heard Meb is going to be there…idk.) So I am taking two of The Penguin’s books, a pen, and a notebook(plus my race packet to get my bib and stuff). 
So today has been great and so not blah 🙂

So, today was blah. I went for a run and did some step aerobics to cheer up. I also did my weights. 
Just relaxing until work.

Today I had to stop by work to correct something stupid(and waste gas) and that made me angry. I walked a few miles and did some step with weights.

Training Day 166/7 Days To The Race

Hi friends! Today I am doing an easy 30. I really wanted to see the live coverage of the NYC marathon but it costs 5 dollars to stream 😦 So I had to read a blog instead. For the women, an American came in second Shalane Flanagan(can you believe it was her first marathon). So, just to see, I looked at what was required to get into the race and for women you need a time of 1:37:00 in the half or better(WOW). Then I looked at the entry fee $196 plus $11 for something else(YIKES). So, since I have no idea when I will be marathon ready, at least I know that I hope to do it somewhere sunny like Hawaii or Disney lol. 
Right now, I will look into a few more halfs 🙂 Today I am going to a passion party for a friend in the country(ready to have a good ole blast). I have seven days until the race!! I am looking forward to the expo(I hope I can get “The Penguin”‘s autograph 🙂 I will definitely let you know if I am successful 🙂

Training Day 164/ 9 Days Until The Big Race

Hi friends! Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement. Today I started off with three miles. I am going to call some more apartments today(that I should be able to afford). I am also applying for more jobs. 
I am off to see the new Tyler Perry film(I love that book).

Training Day 163/10 Days Until The Big Race But Bummer In The Meantime

So, even though the race is coming(and I am excited about it, in fact I keep having a race dream), I am facing some every day struggles. I work(currently part time) and I stay with a friend. Well, my move out date is the beginning of January and I have no leads. I went to the housing authority and was put on a two year waitlist. I was given a list of apartments to contact(many of which were only for seniors). So after contacting 39 apartment complexes, the majority said they have a 1-2 year waitlist and the others I left a message for. 
My biggest fear in life(besides clowns, heights, and roaches) is being homeless. I found out that many of the shelters will only allow you to stay for 30 days. I have applied for a ton of jobs. At this point I really don’t know what to do. I am a single person(no kids) with a bit of depression. 
In the meantime, I have to go to work(which is a silly thing if you could see what I do) and keep praying. 
So, if you have a moment, please say a prayer for me, that my situation can change for the better 🙂

Training Day 161/Breezy Two Miles And Weights

So I joined the a workout 10 minute group 🙂 I’m really excited about it. I decided to work on weights for atleast ten minutes a day. I always find myself with so many different things that I want to blog about but then I forget them all lol. 
I voted today(very excited about that and I hope we can shake some things up). I am still job hunting(so I can be a full time worker). I did five loads of laundry yesterday(I actually like it, I just miss my own washer and dryer). 
Still trying to etch out a plan for my life(Like I know God has a plan for my life, I am just trying to figure out what that is). 
My race is in 12 days(I am going to see what the weather channel is calling for weather).

Training Day 160/Thirteen Days Until The Half

So yesterday I did five miles. I finally found the headphones that I am going to use for the race(they are nice and comfortable). I have a ton of laundry to do today. So, I am glad I can get it done. I am also tweaking my resume and making some contacts for subbing. 
Oh, in case you didn’t hear about the whole Marie Claire drama, I actually like the show Mike and Molly 🙂 I am all for people finding happiness no matter what they look like. I can confess, I have had the thought in my head that I would get a nice boyfriend once I made my weight goal. But I get snapped back to reality when I find myself meeting great guys the way I look now. The only thing I would like is to have a guy be interested in my personality and not just my booty(lol sad but true). 
I hope that you all have a great day and a wonderful week. All we can do is take forward steps and not let anything get in our way.
